Head of Department: Dr. Ranjan Gupta

About the department

It is a branch of dentistry pertaining to the replacement of missing teeth and craniofacial tissues with artificial substitutes. The prosthodontist is often viewed as the “architect” of a restorative dental treatment plan. Extensive training and experience provide prosthodontists with a special understanding of the dynamics of a smile, the preservation of a healthy mouth and the creation of tooth replacements. Prosthodontists provide an extremely high level of care to patients with missing teeth, congenital or acquired maxillofacial defects with a view to restore optimum function and aesthetics.

A complete denture is a removable replacement for a whole set of teeth

Removable partial denture usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases, which are connected by metal framework. They are attached to natural teeth with metal clasps.

An immediate denture is a complete or partial denture planned before the extraction of natural teeth and inserted following the removal of natural teeth. It is a temporary prosthesis & usually it has to be replaced by second set of dentures.

An overdenture is a type of denture made over the teeth or dental implants. It is attached by specialized dental attachments that are secured in the roots or implants.

A crown is a type of dental restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth or dental implant & a bridge is an appliance made of porcelain or acryclic to replace missing teeth in the most natural way possible. They are typically

bonded to the teeth using a dental cement.

Full Mouth Rehabilitation corrects imperfections in bite position & creates a smile that is functional, comfortable and beautiful.

Maxillofacial prosthodontics deals with functional, or cosmetic reconstruction of those regions in the jaws and face that are missing or defective because of surgery, accident, tumour, or developmental malformation.

The patients with loss and compromise of facial anatomy, i.e., orbital, ocular, nasal, auricular, combination intraoral/extraoral, and other related facial deformities are treated by use of obturators ,& fascial prosthesis (eye, ear,& nose) under it.
