GOALS AND OBJECTIVES :

To provide basic Dental Care to the people of the state and to achieve goal of providing “Health for All.”

As per the announcement of the Hon’ble Chief Minister this college is providing free dental treatment to the BPL and IRDP families of the state. This college is also contributing towards “Muskan Project” in which free dentures are made to the senior citizens aged 65 years and above.

The Himachal Pradesh Govt. Dental College & Hospital came in existence in the year 1994 with the intake capacity of 20 students per year to the BDS course so that better Dental Health Services may be provided to the people of the state. Thereafter the intake capacity was increased from 20 to 40 admissions and as such the training course for the 40 admission was started from the academic session 2003-2004. Further the 60 admission were started from 2007-08. Also the MDS course in four specialties i.e. Oral Surgery, Periodontics, Orthodontics and Community Dentistry have also been started from 2006-07 with intake capacity of 2 students each in every department. This college has started MDS course in the specialties of Operative Dentistry, Prosthodontics and Paedodontics from the session 2013-2014. For MDS course in the departments of Prosthodontics, Operative Dentistry and Paedodontics intake capacity of 3 students has been done whereas in the department of Periodontics and Orthodontics there is intake capacity of 2 seats from the session 2014-2015. Training course for Dental Hygeinist and Dental Mechanic has also been started with the intake capacity of 20 students in each course to provide basic Dental Care to the people of the state.

Library Staff

A functional department library with copies of relevant books and journals has been established. All the recent edition of books pertaining to the specialty and allied subjects as per recommendation of DCI are also available.

Any member of the college has free access to rich collection of books and journals between 9.30 A.M and 4.00 PM except for gazetted holidays. To make it user friendly, books are classified under “Dewey Decimal Classification.”
